PBIS

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is our model for effective school wide behavioral intervention. We are very fortunate to have Mr. McPherson leading our students and staff in supporting or four key expectations:
Respect Yourself
Respect Others
Respect Property
Respect Learning

This week, students participated in a few "cool tool" exercises. Staff and students practiced and modeled appropriated hallway and bathroom behavior. Parents, please talk to your students about these activities and see if they found them useful.

I look forward to comments from students and families on these cool tools.

  2. Less people are running into each other now.

  3. It's kind of neat to see eighth graders reminding each other to "walk on the right." They really DID pay attention.

  4. right now no one is really following the rules but i think thats cause no one is use to it, they only do it when the teachers tell them too.

  5. this situation is improving...i just hope that teachers won't give out detentions for being on the left side of the "road". thats a little extreme.

  6. i think its funny cause people are yelling in the halls to stay on one side...... but its good because im not running into people that much anymore

  7. Traffic flow -- Great way to get everyone set for rules of the road which is just a couple years away for some. It's great that respect and courtesy are being taught because it's gone on the wayside in so many household.

  8. I think that it helped me because I don't get run over anymore. I also think it helped in the bathroom because there are no paper towels on the floor.

  9. well i think that the whole rule thing about respect others isnt working. im an 8th grader and i have issues with some students not following this rule. i really think something needs to be done about this to remind students of this and how much it can hurt some people.

  10. Do you seriously think that students will really follow these guidelines. I never think about the rules day to day like, respect learning. I go to school because my parents make me. NOT because I respect learning. The whole respect this and respect that is getting really annoying. We really don't think about the rules every time we make a choice. The kids don't listen to the rules, they listen to their parents and what they think is right, however schools cannot tell the parents to keep their kids in line, and also kids make dumb choices. So stop wasting your time and focus on something serious like the curriculum and different learning strategies.

  11. You make some excellent points. Thank you for posting.

Fortunately, we are continuing to improve upon our standards based curriculum and best practices teaching methods through several programs including the Model Classrooms Project. I appreciate your well thought-out response and hope you can feel comfortable discussing these important issues with me some day soon so that may continue to move GKMS forward in a positive direction.

  12. I feel it would be a GREAT investment, my resnig behind my thinking is it would be a great investment because we can get tools such as dictonary, thisors then we would not to pay for 500 thisoris at $20 each if we could by the tool for $2. You also can geg wirliss internt so then if the computer lab is full you can you the p d.
thanks, South two lake Boy TH

  13. It is a good idea because if your walking on the wrong side of the hallway you might bump into somebody or the other person that is at the right side of the hallway won't get to class on time.

  14. its nort working at all to walk on the right becasue most of the eigth graders dont listen and walk where they please, plus i think we should have a meeting with all the students AND teachers abotu how gossiping is hurting i know of two teachers that always sit outside of their classrooms during passing period and gossip about how the students are dressing and scting and ect. and i being one of the students that was talked about felt very upset about it, seriously, its sickening how teachers say dont start drama but then they do it anyways.

  15. well i think its kind of childish most of us should be old enough to know how to respect others and walk down the hallway corectly. this is something i would expect the first and second graders to learn. that time you spend teaching us students about pbis could be better spent somewhere else. i believe its a good idea but i just think were a little too old for this.

  16. I thank that pbis class was helpful because then teens will not have kids at the age of 15 and it tought us to say no to evrything.
