It is clear that accountability through standardized testing is here to stay in one form or another. It is also clear that there are valid arguments to both sides of the debate as to whether or not it should be.
The APA states, “It is important to remember, however, that no test is valid for all purposes. Indeed, tests vary in their intended uses and in their ability to provide meaningful assessments of student learning. Therefore, while the goal of using large-scale testing to measure and improve student and school system performance is laudable, it is also critical that such tests are sound, are scored properly, and are used appropriately.”
However, in conjunction with No Child Left Behind, all initial steps of meeting standards begin and end with ISAT.
The idea of accountability through testing is a positive for kids in that it requires schools to research needs in curriculum, instruction, and climate. Although there are many drawbacks, never has curriculum been so standards based amongst schools for ALL kids.
As students, do you value the importance of ISAT testing to your school and do your best? As a parent, do you recognize the shift in your student’s curriculum to Illinois Standards? As education professionals, do find standards based curriculum to benefit kids?

ReplyDeletei think ISAT is a good program because it finds the intellegence of all of the students that are taking the tests and it prepares us to have a job when we grow up.and it teaches us to be mature adults.
I think that we need to get good grades before ISAT and after we shouldn't just pick random answer.

ReplyDeleteI think ISAT is good because the testing of kids at this level is good because it prepares us to become mature adults and for fill our dreams so we can do the things we want to do when we are older
I would of never been this smart in the things isat teaches us.
I think you should try your best on ISAT's because it shows the state how good you are and if you don't know the answer to a question just pick the answer that makes more sense to you!!!!!

It helps also with social levels because kid get really nervous so they talk to a lot of people about how hard it is for them to concentrate on the ISATS with all of the pencils taping on the desks and why cant they be in separate rooms so they don't have to try to cheat on the tests. So that means if they get caught they will get in huge trouble. That's what i think of ISATS.

I think that it is important that we do need our best on ISAT testing. Because if we don't then that could cause problems to our schools. The people from ISAT would think that we aren't teaching our students what they need to learn and what is important for us.

i think that is true about we all need to go up to are standers and end with ISAT.I do think it is necessary that we do do are best on the ISATs and I know it is important to the school and i do respected that 100% on what your saying about it is important that we do do best and we take this seriously.And it is because if people don't take it seriously the school and stuff will be watched and stuff right? Do you think we will have a good score this year? Are you confident in us and what we can do?

ReplyDeleteI think it is a good idea because it help us learn what we need to know in life and how we do in school. It is sort of a stressful time for every one because this seems like if we don't do well we will learn the same thing over and over again for the following years to come.I'm a 6th grade student and i feel that we are learning the same thing from last year and this year we go a little bit into new stuff not a lot,but that's just me.We know how to recognize good and bad paragraphs and we know how to do a lot of stuff but i know that we sometimes we need to brush up on thing so we know how it works.I'm not saying that we need to stop teaching the stuff we all ready know but just to do new stuff than the same things every year.Just saying! ♥ Kayla....GKMS student!

Each day, so many people work together to learn and have fun at the same time. I am very optimistic about our students - always.

I think its important to take the ISAT because it helps the teachers, the school and us. i don't think it is just a boring old test we take each year. I think it helps make the student know clearly were they are in the education and it shows what a small town can do. Some people might think its stupid to take it but i don't.

ReplyDeletei think that about 15% of the school don't apply them selves during isat testing but the 85% that does one of them is me. i think that isat is very good for presenting our school to the united states and the state of Illinois. ... also i have some thing to ask can we just do isats all day monday and then as long as we need on tuesday then

ReplyDeleteok ISATs agreat in the way that it measures our intellegence and shows us what we need to improve on but all the preperation we do for it like all the practice extended responses or math questions is piontless. that time could be better spent somewhere else like actually learning new things.
