GKMS Open House Format

Thank you to all the parents who came to our open house. As discussed in a previous Blog Post, our goal is to create an open house environment more conducive to meeting teachers, discussing curriculum, and gaining a better understanding of your student's day.

We are open to continuing to improve tonight's format or seek other opportunities. As this all began with input from our Parent Council, parent input is what will continue to make us a better place for families. I look forward to your thoughts and comments.

  1. I think there should have been more thought put into the planning for people who have more than one child in the same grade or same school. I missed talking to teachers that i had questions for. Language arts and reading were one period after another so i had to walk out of one teachers room to go to my others childs teacher to hear part of her language arts.

  2. I really liked the new format of the open house last night. I liked hearing what the teachers expecations were and what the children will be studying throughout the year. I personally wish all the teachers in the entire district did a parent orientation. This was always done in the school district I worked in and many parents and teachers themselves found it beneficial.

  4. The new format is great. I have two kids so I had to pick and choose classes, but it was great to hear about all the curriculum and learn more about classes

We really enjoyed the format of the open house on Wednesday evening. It was pleasant meeting all of my sons teachers and hearing their expectations for the school year. Some of the teachers had great powerpoints also. For all of the parents who attended, I thought it was very orderly.

  6. We really enjoyed listening to each teacher's presentation. It is wonderful to know their expectations and their thoughts. This was and is so important to us. Our only dissapointment was we have two children one in sixth and one in eighth. The new format did not allow us the opportunity to meet with both children's teachers. Every teacher we visited went over their time limit, was caught off, and had more important things to say. I would allow a little more time for each teacher next year.

  7. I really like the new format. I have older kids and their open houses were good, but I really feel that I was able to hear from the teachers what is expected of the students. The teachers were prepared to explain and ready to answer questions. The Smart Board is a wonderful tool. Keep up the good work Mr Lekkas!

  8. and there you have it. A nearly unanamous positive feedback on the new format. As a teacher i found it to be gratifying to be able to inform parents of our expectations and our curriculum. By far, more educational than a simple hand shaking session.
